A joint meeting between Iranian and Iraqi officials was held to discuss border crossings. The two sides reached agreements on combating smuggling of goods and drugs, enhancing border security, developing border economies, and resolving issues at border terminals to facilitate trade and passenger movement.

Ali Akbar Pourjamshidian, Deputy Minister of Interior of Iran, highlighted Iraq’s vital role in Iran’s trade exchanges and said:
“Fortunately, in continuation of previous sessions, we achieved good agreements today regarding strengthening borders, expanding border markets, and facilitating trade. With the signing of this memorandum, we hope to see further economic development and reduced border issues.”

He also congratulated the Islamic Unity Week, expressed gratitude for Iraq’s cooperation in organizing the Arbaeen pilgrimage, and emphasized the importance of continued bilateral interactions.

Omar Adnan Al-Waeli, Head of Iraq’s Border Crossings Authority, appreciated Iran’s hospitality and stated:
“This meeting will strengthen economic relations, ease trade procedures, and facilitate passenger crossings. Our cooperation is ongoing, as joint meetings are held almost every two months, producing positive outcomes for both countries.”

He added that the fifth memorandum of border crossings was signed, stressing that neither side would allow its territory to be used as a platform for threatening the other’s security.
